School Blazers through the years
Blazers were officially introduced along with the School Crest and Motto in 1919.
Over 164 years of tradition and duty
Legend has it that Bishop Hale escorted his first pupil on horseback to Perth, camping out in the bush, over a three day period in time for the opening of the doors at The Cloisters on 28 June 1858.
Substance counted for more than appearance
"There was no such things as football boots. You just had to use the same boots you wore to School.”
Laying of the Foundation Stone
The Governor, Sir Harry Barron, 'hoped that the School would continue to be an important factor in the life of the State, and that the tuitions of the School would be kept up as long as Western Australia existed.'
Havelock Street, July 1927
"There were few motor cars or trucks; buses had just started a Perth-Fremantle service - and the successful ascent of Malcolm Street by them when fully loaded was sometimes in doubt."
Performed with military precision
"P.T., known as ‘drill’, was supervised by ‘Buckety’ Wells, an old soldier of rather forceful mien, bristling hair and moustache, whose annual ‘tour de force’ was the Drill Display on the school lawn on Speech Night before an assembly of admiring parents and families."
Havelock Street, 1941
A spirit which cannot be taught
Peter Eakins and Frankie Kuhn lead the charge from Hale School to the Inters Athletics Championships.
No more orienteering, shooting or lantern stalking
'The news came through that all Cadet Units were to be disbanded. This was received with mixed feelings; some sighed with relief, some cried for joy, but most had a look of sadness in their eyes.'
They lost their lives doing their duty
'Headmaster, John Inverarity commissioned the Hale School Memorial Groves which commemorate all Old Haleians who lost their lives while serving their country.'
Continuing authentic development into the future
