THE ROTTO SWIM

25 Feb 10

A picture is worth a thousand words!  You can see the pain in DEANE PIETERS’ face at the end of the Rottnest Challenge Swim . . .  but there was a whole heap of satisfaction as well in crossing the line in first place: perhaps not enough satisfaction to see him defend his title next year though.

“I can confidently say that I will retire from solo swims and look for a new challenge away from water,” said Deane!

Three out of the first four swimmers to reach Rottnest were Old Haleians! Not a bad effort.

  1. DEANE PIETERS (1977-1985) 4hrs 41mins 35secs
  2. TIM HEWITT (1986-1990) 4hrs 43 mins 47secs
  3. Tim's brother BEN HEWITT (1984-1988) 4hrs 57min 08sec
    just 30 seconds away from a 1, 2, 3 finish for OHA!

Congratulations to all Old Haleians who took part in 'The Swim' on Saturday. It’s the satisfaction and the camaraderie of the day that keeps people participating year after year in what has become a hugely successful annual event.

These are just some of the old Haleians who braved the elements, the currents and the mystery stingers on Saturday in their bid to conquer the Rottnest Channel Swim.
