Volunteer Work . . .

Hale School students in Years 8 to 12 are encouraged to participate in our Student Service Learning Program. The aim of the program is to foster the students’ ethical & social development. In particular, we hope to deepen the boys’ commitment to pro-active social values such as kindness, empathy, personal responsibility, a sense of community and respect for others. It is hoped that when students leave school they will continue to volunteer their time and energy to assist others in their own community as well as overseas.

If you have participated in voluntary work within Australia or overseas we would appreciate details of your work:

  • Your name and contact details
  • Contact details of the organisation
  • General comment on your time spent with the voluntary organisation

If you are looking to become involved in voluntary work within Australia or overseas, please let us know

VOLUNTARY WORK OVERSEAS
If you would like to be involved in voluntary work at the three agencies listed below please contact Jill Maskiell (Student Service Learning Coordinator) at jpm@hale.wa.edu.au

CHRISTINA NOBLE CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION (CNCF)
Distict 3, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
www.cncf.org

CNCF require their volunteers to work with them for three months. The work is undertaken at the CNCF Social and Medical Centre in District 3, HCMC. The centre caters for children (usually orphans) aged from 0 to 6 who have an intellectual and/or physical disability which requires regular medical attention. The doctors, nurses and carers in the Centre are Vietnamese. There are usually 4 to 6 volunteers working at the Centre mainly from Ireland or Australia. A keen interest in working with children is necessary. Having worked here for three months in 2008 I can assure you it is a wonderfully rewarding experience.

HOI AN ORPHANAGE- THE KIANH FOUNDATION
Hoi An, Central Vietnam
www.kianh.org.uk

The Hoi An Orphanage is run by the Vietnamese Government. The Kianh Foundation is a U.K. based charity which supports those orphans who are disabled by providing physiotherapy, special needs education and extra carers. A minimum of one month is required by the Foundation for all volunteers. Specific details may be found on the Kianh Foundation website.

Over the years Hale School students have loved visiting the orphanage and have made great connections with the beautiful children living there. The orphanage would be a wonderful place to volunteer.

RIDE AID
Ride Aid is a Perth based charity supporting many wonderful projects in Cambodia. In 2008 and 2009 Hale School has supported the work being done in Cambodia by Ride Aid and we certainly aim to keep this association going in the years to come. Projects include the building of schools, provision of shelters for street kids, orphanages and education programs for academically talented children. Voluntary positions should be available towards the end of 2010 in the area of teaching (English in particular), medicine and dentistry.

Please check their website www.rideaid.com.au for further details.
