On Friday 21 March, more than 250 Old Haleians returned to campus to reconnect, reminisce and celebrate their enduring bond with the school and each other.
A key moment of the day was the presentation of the prestigious Bishop Hale Medal. This honour is awarded to an Old Haleian who has demonstrated outstanding selflessness and a lifelong commitment to serving others, values deeply embedded in Hale’s motto: Duty. The 2025 Bishop Hale Medal was awarded to Ross Wallman (1999–2004), a passionate advocate and dedicated volunteer whose contributions have made a lasting impact on many communities.
Ross’s extensive volunteer work spans organisations such as HeartKids WA, Neuromuscular WA, the RSPCA, and Hale School, among many others. Whether serving as a master of ceremonies at fundraising events, mentoring young people, or lending his public profile to important causes, Ross’s efforts are driven by a genuine desire to uplift those in need.
As a long-standing mentor in the Hale Mates program, Ross dedicates time each week to working with Service Learning students, often bringing his young son along to share in the experience. His unwavering support of the school is evident in his involvement with numerous Hale initiatives, from public speaking competitions to fundraising efforts. In all that he does – as a mentor, ambassador, and family man – Ross embodies integrity, generosity and service. He is a truly deserving recipient of the Bishop Hale Medal.
Another significant moment of the day was the official renaming of F Block to the Isaachsen Wing, in honour of Dr Eric Isaachsen (1964-68) and his wife, Dr Louise Farrell OAM. This recognition celebrates their long-standing dedication, generosity and philanthropic support of Hale School.
With Old Haleians in attendance spanning generations, from our most recent graduates to our Havelock Street alumni, the day was a powerful reminder of the lasting connections formed at Hale. Following the assembly, guests gathered in for lunch and an afternoon of reminiscing, sharing stories and strengthening friendships.
A heartfelt thank you to all who joined us to make Old Boys’ Day 2025 such a resounding success. We look forward to welcoming more Old Haleians back to campus in the years to come.
