          OLD HALEIANS

          Darren Gan
          (2009-14)
After a little over three years working
as a consultant at the Boston
          Consulting Group, in August 2022
Darren relocated from New York to
London to commence his MBA at the
          London Business School.
Notably, Darren was selected as a
BK Birla Scholar. Now in its fourth
year, the BK Birla Scholars program
          provides funding in perpetuity
          to 10 outstanding full-time MBA
          candidates who are recognised
in the top 5% of their incoming
          class. Scholarships are awarded
          to candidates who demonstrate
          academic excellence, leadership
potential and uphold the ideals of Dene Rogers
integrity, dedication and service to (1972-76) & about
          humanity.
Dene graduated from Curtin with a Bachelor of Engineering, later
from Oxford University with a Master of Science by research, and
then from Yale University with an MBA. His professional career
has led him to work in Tokyo as an engineer working on projects
based in the Middle East, China and Papua New Guinea. After
gaining his MBA, Dene’s career included being CEO of several
large corporations including Sears Canada and Target Australia.
He now lives in San Francisco and is the co-founder of several
tech startup businesses. He is also helping the Saudi Arabian
government in an advisory capacity to launch approximately 50
startups over the next five years. This initiative has a $700 billion
budget and involves the construction of three new cities in the
                                             north-west of Saudi.
During a visit to Perth in early September, Dene returned to Hale
School to speak to 80 Year 11 students as part of the School’s
Emerging Leaders program. Dene spoke about his personal
journey since leaving school, as well as his global adventures
in the business world. His messages of ethical leadership and
having a clear vision and purpose resonated with the aspiring
                                             student leaders.
