            STRATEGIC PLANS - LEARNING

                                                       WINNERS

Hale School has three distinct WACE pathways in Yeas 11 and 12:
ATAR, Alternative ATAR, and Vocational Education and Training
(VET). Within the VET pathway students can select from a variety of
industry-specific certificate courses, all of which articulate directly
into the workplace, an apprenticeship, a traineeship and/or further
                                                       study at TAFE or university.
Lewis Garard and Daniel Jonasson are two students who selected
the VET pathway for their Year 11 studies. Lewis selected the one-year
course, Certificate II in Automotive Vocational Preparation, and Daniel
selected the two-year course, Certificate II in Building and Construction,
via the School’s partnership with CareerLink. Both students also
completed over 100 hours in the workplace, gaining on-the-job training and experience.

As an additional activity to their course and workplace, these students were encouraged to nominate and compete in
the WA WorldSkills regional competition for their respective industry. WorldSkills organises the world championships of
vocational skills and is held every two years in different parts of the world. Students can represent their state and Australia
based on how successfully they can demonstrate their industry skills and knowledge. WorldSkills competitions are judged
by experts across a range of employers and educational institutions.
In August, Lewis (Automotive) and Daniel (Bricklaying) competed in the Perth WorldSkills regional competition, which
required them to complete a series of tasks relating to their industry. Lewis demonstrated his skills in Automotive
relating to brakes, steering, electrical and cooling system services. Daniel created a feature wall, which was judged on
its appearance, jointing, projections and levels. Their stellar performances saw both Lewis and Daniel being awarded the
Gold Medal in their respective category and they have been selected to represent Team WA at the WorldSkills National
                  Championships in Melbourne in 2023.
These are the first students to represent Hale School and win Gold Medals at this competition. As Hale continues to
promote the individualised VET program, students will be encouraged to participate in WorldSkills, nominate for the SCSA
VET Awards and WA VET Awards to recognise their outstanding achievements in this pathway.

Future offerings in a variety of industries include Automotive, Building and Construction, Education, Electrotechnology,
Fitness, Live Production and Technical Services, and Screen and Media, to name a few. Hale School is also forming
partnerships with industry, which will only strengthen VET pathways for our students.

Three Hale students scored in the top 1% in the 2022 Australian

Aidan was also highly commended for his project on
