Julian is not only a proud Old Haleian, but part of a truly generational Hale family. His family’s association with the school stretches from his own years here, to his father before him, his brothers Tim and Anthony, son David, and now into the next generation with his grandson and fellow Old Haleian. That kind of connection speaks to something more than history. It speaks to loyalty, belonging, and a lasting commitment to the Hale community.
Since leaving Hale in 1962, Julian has embodied the values of service, humility, and quiet leadership. In the property business, Julian has worked tirelessly, mentoring many others in the industry across the years. He has dedicated significant time, resources and advocacy to the benefit of communities such as Ledge Point, Bunbury and to the continued running of the Stawell Gift. Julian has also been a significant supporter and benefactor of the Nulsen Youth Patron program over many years.
It is fitting that he is being recognised with the Bishop Hale Award, an honour that celebrates duty through outstanding contribution and character. While the Bishop Hale Medallist is selected on the basis of work and contributions within the broader community, we also note Julian’s significant contributions to the school and to acknowledge his philanthropic leadership in that regard.
Julian is someone who has never sought recognition for its own sake, but instead has simply turned up, contributed, and helped build the people. His example reminds us that true service is often not about applause, but about consistency, generosity, and doing what needs to be done.
Quiet leadership, lasting impact. Congratulations Julian!
