The Old Haleians’ Association is pleased to announce that Max Hickman has been awarded the 2027-2028 Lister Drake Scholarship.
Max joined Hale School in Year 5 alongside his older brother, Oliver. He is the grandson of Ian Macmillan (1956) and great-nephew of Alistair Macmillan (1955). Since arriving at Hale, Max has consistently demonstrated the qualities the scholarship seeks to recognise: leadership, service, commitment and a genuine desire for personal growth.
Reflecting on Max’s selection, Head of Haynes House Dan Vernon said: “Max is a highly respected member of Haynes House who endears himself to others through his personable nature, strong character and exceptional work ethic. His contribution to the co-curricular life of the School has been extensive. Max has proudly represented both Haynes House and Hale School in Cricket and Australian Rules Football, demonstrating the teamwork, dedication and determination that make him such a valued member of our community.”
Beyond the classroom and sporting field, Max has embraced opportunities to serve others. He has participated in Service Learning initiatives including The Smith Family Reading Program and, more recently, the Buddy Program at Floreat Park Primary School, where he has demonstrated a genuine commitment to supporting younger students.
Max’s positive attitude, willingness to contribute and enthusiasm for all aspects of school life make him an outstanding recipient of the Lister Drake Scholarship. The Old Haleians’ Association congratulates Max on this well-deserved achievement and looks forward to following his continued success in the years ahead.
