PREMIERSHIPS
AT THE DOUBLE
Our winter season saw more success at the
top level with our 1st XI hockey and 1st XV
rugby sides both winning premierships.
It had been six years since our 1st XV rugby
team last held the Brother Redmond Cup, but
2022 was to be the year that ended the drought
after the team won all of its 12 fixtures. There
were some tricky games along the way but
strong leadership at the top and stern resilience
from other team members ensured no obstacle
was too hard to overcome. Leading the way
was Captain, Tiam Toufan who crossed for
over 30 tries in what was a season that had
to be seen to be believed, with Vice-Captains,
Christian Helberg and Ben Farrow having
dominant seasons.
Hale hockey had another magnificent year
with our 1st XI retaining the Ray House Cup
they won in 2021 by finishing joint top of the
ladder with Christ Church Grammar School. It
all came down to the final game of the year at
UWA with Hale skipping out to a 3-1 lead before
Christ Church stormed home to snatch a 3-3
draw. It was a fitting end to a fantastic season
from both teams. Hale’s two national talent
squad members Jack Faulkner and Matthew
Van Selm (see opposite page for their sporting
Honours) were pivotal in the fortunes of the
team, with their leadership bringing the best out
of those around them.
Both premierships will hold a special place in
the memory of those involved and will inspire
younger students to reach those heights in the
years ahead.
