KEEPING IN TOUCH WITH
FAMILY
The Hale School community spreads far beyond the school gates, with Old Boys and family members also feeling a
great affiliation to the School. While the Old Haleians’ Association has long organised events for alumni, the School is
now also focusing on maintaining connections with extended family and past parents.
Parents are heavily invested in their child’s education and provide significant support to the School and each other. In
an effort to acknowledge and retain a sense of connection among parents once their son has graduated, a number of
initiatives have been developed in recent years for past parents.
In 2020 the inaugural Past Parent Sundowner was held for parents whose sons had graduated in Year 12 the previous year.
The Year 13 Sundowner was warmly embraced and has continued since, while expanding the invitation to all past parents.
Much like the popular start-of-year Parent Sundowner, the Past Parent Sundowner serves as a way to reconnect with the
Hale community and hear news about the School.
Also, in recent years a Past Parents’ and Friends’ newsletter has been sent to all past Hale families whose contact details
are known by the School. Sent at the start of each term, the newsletter provides information and events happening at Hale
School that might be of interest, including information on the Past Parent Sundowner.
The School is mindful that grandparents are often also very invested in their grandchildren and in some cases assist with
school fees. Unfortunately, extended family cannot be accommodated at many school events due to limited capacity, but
we are welcoming grandparents to the School at other times, such as Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day in the Junior
and Middle Schools, which has become an annual event that is enjoyed tremendously by the boys and their special guests.
If you are a past parent or grandparent who would like to receive the newsletter and be notified of these events, please
email foundation@hale.wa.edu.au to opt in and update your email details.
