Young Haleian, Sam Bredell (2018-25) has enjoyed outstanding success representing Australia at the International Rowing Challenge in Michigan, USA in July this year.
Competing as part of the Australian Under 19 B Team against crews from Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and the United States, Sam delivered an exceptional performance, winning three gold medals in the Men’s Double Scull, Men’s Quad Scull and Mixed Eight, along with a silver medal in the Men’s Coxed Four.
Sam’s rowing journey began in Year 8 at Hale School, where he discovered a passion for the sport that quickly became a defining part of his life.
“Rowing has taught me discipline, resilience and the importance of showing up, whether it’s early mornings, tough training sessions or race days where you have to push yourself to your limits,” Sam said.
During his time at Hale, Sam was a member of the First VIII crew that claimed the Head of the River title in 2024. He has also represented Western Australia in state crews and, earlier this year, won the Australian Under 19 Men’s Single Scull Championship. As a member of the Western Australian Institute of Sport rowing program, Sam has continued to develop his skills while competing at the highest level.
Representing Australia on the international stage marked another significant milestone in Sam’s rowing career.
“Wearing the green and gold is something I’m really proud of, and it makes all the hard work worthwhile,” he said.
